Ragna is the exam to become a knight.[1] The current Ragna is its 99th iteration.[2]
Overview[]
Both boys and girls over the age of 14 have to pass an entrance exam into Ragna, then they must first train as an apprentice knight in order to become a full fledged knight. The four knight captains must recommend a candidates to Ragna at least once every four years.[3] Usually, only the children of nobles can become Knights.[4][3] It is heavily frowned upon when a non-noble is selected as a candidate.[4] The testing ground for Ragna is in Holy Land, the territory of the Knights.[5]
To get to Holy Land, the candidates must successfully pass through the Path of Trials. To get to the Path of Trials, candidates must answer the simple question from the Golem of Truth, which is the 'First Rite of Ragna'. The Golem of Truth asks the candidates why they want to become Knights and uses its Mind's Eye to determine if the candidate is being truthful. Once the golem deems the candidate's answer acceptable, the candidate must then show the golem the proof of the recommendation they received from a captain.[6] The difficulty of the Path of Trials is adjusted by the Golem of Truth based on the candidates skills.[6]
After successfully getting through the Path of Trials, the candidate enters a different dimension and acquires the apprentice knight title. In the dimension, the candidate meets the Chivalric Code, who gives the candidate the inventory skill and the Gacha of the Knights as congratulatory gifts.[2]
Once in Holy Land, the candidates of Ragna must undergo four types of exams: Mind, Treasure Hunt, Ensemble and Arena. The examiner for each exam has traditionally been handled by the red, yellow, green and blue captains respectively.[1] The candidate who obtains a high enough score in these four exams is not only given the Pendant of the Knight which allows the utilization of the Chivalric Code's power, but they are also given the title Knight Squad which allows them to prioritize the selection of the knight squad they wish to join. They will start their life as a knight one rank higher than that of their colleagues as an Intermediate Knight. Therefore, in Ragna weapons brought in are not allowed to be used and candidates must tale the exam using the given 'Apprentice Knight's Weapon', which the apprentice knight can get by opening Gacha of the Knights box[1]
On the first day of Ragna, the apprentice knights are served a special meal, Knightria. This tradition was created to show the significance of the first meal that the First Grand Master and Sword Master Wickrest had together after the birth of The Knights.[7]
Ragna has not been suspended in it's 99 year history. Knights cannot defy the Chivalric Code and it is impossible for even a captain to stop the Ragna fulfilled by the Chivalric Code.[8] The exam still went ahead even after candidates were attacked during the mind exam.[8]
