Notes & Trivia[]

  • Apprentice Knights were first spoken about by Full Moon Ryu in X Ash Episode 2, when Full Moon Ryu was trying to convince X and Ash to join The Knights.
  • In real life, An 'Apprentice Knight'(견습기사) is known as a 'Squire' 향사'(鄕士). "Squire" is a shortened version of the word 'esquire' "기사의 종자(從者); 스콰이어", from the Old French escuier (modern French écuyer), itself derived from the Late Latin scutarius ("shield bearer"), in medieval or Old English a scutifer. The Classical Latin equivalent was armiger ("arms bearer"). A squire was typically a young boy, training to become a knight. A boy became a page at the age of 7 then a squire at age 14. Squires were the second step to becoming a knight, after having served as a page. Boys served a knight as an attendant or shield carrier, doing simple but important tasks such as saddling a horse or caring for the knight's weapons and armor. The squire would sometimes carry the knight's flag into battle with his master. After continuing this apprenticeship for several years, the squire is then recognized and commissioned as a knight between the ages of 17 and 20. In many cases, commissioning was performed in a splendid manner in the presence of many people in the master's court and mansion, but there were also those who were commissioned from the battlefield. Apprentice knights usually wear 'spurs'박차(拍車), but when appointed as knights, they are replaced with gold or gold plated ones. Esquire was originally a term for a noble boy or young man who aimed at such an article. Use of the term 'squire' evolved over time. in later times, a village leader or a lord of the manor might come to be known as a "squire", and still later, the term was applied to members of the landed gentry. In contemporary American usage, "squire" is the title given to justices of the peace or similar local dignitaries
